It sounds like a line, but it isn’t! I really have been asked for an apartment tour. When I was in the process of moving I was shocked at how much I hated most new apartments in Wichita. They had funky layouts or poles (and not the possibly fun kind?) in the middle of them. The weirdest tour? There’s an entire complex of expensive apartments that… just don’t have bedroom doors. Uh, not going to work for me. Anyway, I say all that to say I absolutely LOVE my apartment and got very lucky to have the last unit in the building. There’s a lot you can do to make an apartment feel less sterile that are cheap and easy! I’ll be doing a post on the small things that make everyday things feel a little more luxurious.
Entryway/Kitchen
Isn’t the kitchen the focal point in every home? I feel like this is especially true in my apartment. You walk directly into the kitchen and while I don’t want this into a house, it’s my favorite view of my home. My biggest splurge in the kitchen was the chairs that took months to get to me. I have no regrets. You will notice that I still have some of the same decor from years ago in my first apartment tour. Drake lyrics never go out of style.
If you want to learn more about the plants I have, you can check out this plant care post. You can see a little more of the kitchen here as well.
Kitchen Organization
The Home Edit is an incredibly popular book. However, I don’t like how they organize. I’m glad it works for them but it’s not for me. I prefer function first in my kitchen. However, I did discover my love of clear containers and acrylic lazy susans. I completely overhauled my most used cabinet (spice/baking/dried goods). Sometimes when it’s at peak perfection, I just open the cabinet because it makes me happy.
I like to have my cookbooks have dual purpose by being decor but also easy reach. Totally appreciate food bloggers but I prefer an actual cookbook. Having a recipe book stand is also super helpful for adding visual interest and functionality. That utensil holder is actually a wine cooler. I also really like displaying oils and vinegar that are pretty. Buy one olive oil bottle and transfer into it when you’re done!
Bathroom
The bathroom was the third selling point on my apartment tour. I ended up having a larger bathroom due to my location in the building and I scored. When I first walked-in after my lease was signed I was shocked! I love the double sinks yet have never used any sink but one. I guess it’s just nice to know I have the option of a different one.
The bathroom makes up for the small lack of storage elsewhere in the apartment. Now that I’ve had this large of a bathroom I’m not sure I can go back. While I don’t use both sinks, I absolutely use all of the counter space to display my skincare and most of my curly hair care. I am not a bath person so it’s not an issue for me, but the complex only has showers.
My favorite small touches in the bathroom are these gold trays by my sinks. Then to keep my hair care organized, I used this clear tray. If you want to really step it up, I use one of these to store my q-tips in. Because the bathroom is long, finding a bath mat was hard. This extra long one has been great!
Bedroom
I have a one-bedroom apartment. I have kept the decor very simple in here intentionally. I want my bedroom to be clean, tidy and with minimal distractions. I may end up hanging some prints in this room but only if I find something that really speaks to me.
Closet
This would be the #1 selling point. This closet. Hi. If I told you I hadn’t gone in there and laid on the floor and looked at my clothes and thought about life. For a one bedroom apartment, this is the best closet I’ve seen in Wichita. I’m sure it’s intended for two people with normal amounts of clothes. Instead, it’s got one person who really loves clothes and dividing them up with highly specific criteria.
This shelf is my seasonal area. If I get something new, it goes into this area. I keep one of my shoes out for easy access for easier outfit planning. Is it always this tidy? 90% of the time it absolutely is. The other 10%? Most likely when I am planning outfits for #WorkWearAF.
This is an old tip but worth mentioning. Use the same hangers! These slim velvet ones you can pick up anywhere and are FANTASTIC! Because I have higher and lower sections, I bought this small buffet to be additional storage under the shirt area.
Laundry
This is conveniently located in my hallway along with a coat closet I use for storage. The washer and dryer is with rent. Nothing exciting here, other than using wicker baskets to organize this area.
Living Room
This is right off the kitchen and leads to a patio. The infamous mirror is housed here in the corner. I didn’t plan on getting such a large TV, but I got this 65″ inch one in a flash sale. Note: If you buy a huge TV, make sure it fits in your car so you don’t have to have someone’s husband who sent you the sale come rescue you and take it to your house.
As you can tell, I have saved a lot of items from my house like the velvet couch that have served me well. That velvet couch was $100 off Craigslist from a business here in Wichita and has lasted for YEARS. I don’t recommend buying furniture a lot like that but this one really worked out well.
If you’ve made it this far, bless you. You are a real trooper. I hope you enjoyed it and let me know if you have any questions!
