This is the story that involves two very important things in my life, my favorite tote bag and an avocado. In fact, avocados are so important to me that I once tweeted that I didn’t understand how someone could waste an avocado on a hair mask when it could have been used for guacamole. Like, how does someone waste that possible guac avocado on their hair that might not even appreciate it? So you get the general idea of how important avocados are in my life.
Enter my Madewell bag. It has carried laptops, books, shoes, too many groceries and many, many things. So it’s been a great investment that I HIGHLY recommend (you can see why here, here and here) you get and well, you can thank me later when you fall in love with this bag.
So where’s the story?

Lipstick: Too Faced (exact)
I don’t know what the price of avocados where you are, but in Kansas they are sooooo cheap. Like .33 cents cheap. I went grocery shopping on Saturday morning because I am now old and I wake up at 7 am on a Saturday and by 9 am I am ready to get on with my day before everyone is rolling out of bed. I knew that I needed an avocado for Sunday and the lunch that I was making, but all of the avocados were like the most un-ripe I have ever seen.
The rest of the day was a blur because I probably had to take a nap from being up so early and I prepped the meal, very much worried about the avocado situation because I had like six ready to go, but none of them were ripe. Talk about first world problems.
Because I am an over-planner and I need to know that everything is where it should be. I put the avocados in my bag and went to bed. The next morning I was making the salad and I remembered to look for the avocado in my purse.

Guys. The avocado was the most perfectly ripe thing I have ever seen. It was like I had achieve avocado perfection during those whole three hours that an avocado goes from being an assault weapon to being perfection.
What was my secret? I seriously think that my bag ripened that. It was a perfectly dark environment and was in there overnight. I compared it to the avocados that were on my cabinet and they were still in the mini-assault weapon stage of life.

However, if you are going to take my advice and turn your Madewell bag into an avocado ripener, make sure that you remove the second avocado from your bag. Because when you are at work and you try and figure out why your bag is so heavy and you pull out an avocado, you are going to have a lot of questions from your coworkers.
Also found was a container of “Kickin’ Chicken” seasoning. How? I have no idea, but based on my Monday it was literally the least weird thing that had happened to me. Bring it on next Monday, there’s no way you are going to be able to up this past week.

Don't hate me, but I don't like avocados. Pete does though, so I make him guac on occasion! However, I do love bananas and I've had a lot of problems with their ripeness lately so I did some research and I saw that you can put bananas (or avocados) in the oven to ripen them up…of course I found this on Pinterest, so the jury is still out on whether or not it actually works, but I'll try anything once 😉

You look so beautiful, Alyssa! Your hair is amazing, I wish my curls would be as defined! Instead, they look like dreadlocks on the second day, haha. Wow, Kansas does sell REALLY cheap avocados! Can you believe that here in New York, sometimes they're well over $2 EACH! Forget about organic, sometimes almost $5, but if you catch a sale, then it's all good. I'm an avocado lover myself, we always have them in my house and try to incorporate them in every meal. I tried the whole avocado mask and for my hair type, it was a waste because my hair was SUPER greasy afterwards :/ I love your Madewell bag and how great that you were able to ripen your avocado so quickly, it can take DAYS for it to get perfectly ripe! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having a great day so far!

Jalisa

Hahah. Yaas, queen! Avocados are almost always sold unripened in stores by ne. You take them home and hopefully you can wait the three days it takes to ripen. However, last week a grocery store by me had RIPE avocados! It was a mad-house.

Your writing makes me LOL! I love it.

I love my transport tote too but I didn't know about its magical avocado-ripening abilities. I'll have to try when I'm in a pinch–I hate it when they're too green to eat! Love this gorgeous LBD + jean jacket combo.

Love your outfit! And putting an avocado in an enclosed container is a great way to ripen it! As long as it doesn't leave your bag smelly!

So, here's the deal. Sometimes the work week just really gets to me. It's stressful, lacks sleep … But, then I come to your posts and it seems all that was wrong in the world is all well and good after reading. This just made me laugh out loud – like right at the title. And I too am obsessed with avocados! Wish they were that cheap here in Chi. Loved all of this! Thanks for putting a smile on my face! XO

Bahahah this is amazing! I usually through them in a paper bag and clip it shut. It usually ripens in a day or two! Goodness! Where are you getting your avos?!?! Ours are expensive! But… I'm not good at bargain grocery shopping.. and we often go to Target… for our groceries. So maybe that explains it… 😛 I love this outfit!! 🙂 I've definitely been eyeing those Tulip bags… *heart eyed emoji* XO -Alexandra

Love these photos and this summery outfit so much! You look incredible! I also completely support how enthusiastic you are about avocados – seriously, an avocado should first and foremost be used to guac. Oh and about finding things in your bag the next day – in Germany most of us just bring our own bags or put food in our bags at the store – last week I reached into my purse and pulled out a zucchini, lol.

Wow, those are some cheap avocados! The cheapest I can get them is $1, and for that I could never waste one on a hair mask. However for $.33 I might be so inclined. Usually when I want to ripen one i put it in a brown paper bag, but I suppose a leather bag would duplicate that environment. Also throwing a banana in there helps too!
