I go back and forth about being a Kansas girl. I hate the stereotype it brings to mind. I want to live on the East Coast, hate country music and never wear cowboy boots. All of this being said, I can’t shake my Kansas roots. I’m proud of my family and my 90 year old grandfather who still farms despite having both his knees replaces and well, being 90 years old. I’ve slowly started embracing it, and I decided to completely solidify this by buying this necklace. It’s subtle but also pays homage to my roots. I love it.
To combat my Kansas roots and stay true to myself I decided to pair this Kansas necklace with some J.Crew, bling and some impractically high heels. A tribute to who I am but also to the place where I came from. Kansas will, whether I like it or not, be home sweet home.
I asked Jennifer of Hello Cheeseburger if she would like to partner up for me for a giveaway celebrating my new blog launch and am delighted that she said yes! The prizes are: $20 store credit to Hello Cheeseburger, $25 J. Crew gift card and a $10 Starbucks gift card! For those of you, who like me, are bad at math that is a grand total of $55! Enter below and GOOD LUCK! Ends the 27th!

Sometimes it can be so hard feeling like you fit in! I lived in CA my whole life and just recently moved to Portland where people are more outdoorsy and never wear heels. It's been quite hard for me to embrace that I am a heels girl and I need to just get over what other people are thinking. I love Oregon, otherwise I wouldn't have moved here, and I just need to be who I am! 🙂
I love that Kansas necklace! I've been wanting something like that. I think they are fun keepsakes. And that pink button down is so pretty on you. Great color! <3

I still claim to be a Minnesota girl even though I moved to WI years ago. I know they're right next to each other but there's a huge difference to me!

This is the most exciting giveaway! I would (of course) get the Kansas necklace. I've been wanting a KS necklace for awhile, but keep thinking it would be a good thing to put on a birthday wish list, so I haven't bought one for myself. I absolutely agree with your thoughts on being a Kansas girl. There are some negative stereotypes to overcome, but I loved growing up there, and I think it will always feel like home!

I would definitely go with both the kansas necklace and the sweetheart necklace =)

That bright pink is absolutely gorgeous on you! Ah, stereotyping! I live in New York, but not in NYC. But when I tell people I live in NY, they ask how it is to live in a big city and why is everyone there so mean. lol

First of all, LOOOOOOVE this look! And I can understand what you mean. I get sick of the stereotypes about Louisiana people. Unfortunately a lot of them are true. Eh. I definitely feel like I'm in the wrong state. Anyway, I would pick the Leopard statement necklace. Love it!

I've heard about Hello Cheeseburger through one other blog but never visited the store- holy moley, some gorgeous and affordable finds! My only lament is that there is no California necklace…luckily I fell in love with about three other things, my fav being the Hammered Spike necklace! I could use that for sure. I love the pop of pink with the eyelet, so pretty!
Also- I replied to my comment but I figured you would see it better here: I use one of those mini hairbands (that would never actually work on thick hair) and gather my shirt into a "bun" if you will. Try it out, you'll rock it!

I feel the same way about my home state! I used to hate being from Tennessee- you know, the redneck jokes and the barefoot people in Walmart… but now that I live in Mississippi, I first of all realize that it is worse, and second of all love my state so much more! I love that Kansas necklace. I would totally wear a Tennessee one. Also one of those cool Home tshirts… Love this look!

I'm a little late on this, but I love the new blog look! Also, I don't have KS roots, but I did go to college there. While I'm glad I no longer live there, there are still so many things I miss about KS and KC is such a great city…it definitely has a lot to offer for being a smaller city!

AH! i want all of her necklaces! SO CUTE!!! i love the personalized disc necklace!

I don't feel all that much connection to my own birth state, Michigan, either, but I'd probably wear a Michigan necklace too. It seems like a little bit of loyalty always remains with us!

I feel the same way about my home but recently started to embrace my roots. It's part of who you are and you're wonderful! 😉
