I’ve written over 400 blog posts and yet the post about french fries is the one that takes me a day to decide on what pun to go with for the title. I debated the obvious looking so fry, but then I realized my hair is a little dry so I can’t call attention to that. Fri-yay? I wanted to just to drive by boss crazy. But then I saw “Draw me like one of your french women” and I just knew. I don’t need a portrait of myself. However, a drawing of fries? I am here for this art.
I’ve always loved the contrast of formal + guilty pleasures in photos and I feel like there’s fewer things that represent this than wearing a designer dress in the middle of Five Guys on a Friday afternoon, carrying a Burberry bag. Balance people.
Truthfully, my dream wedding day is one where I wake up, get dressed with my groom and then we end the day by eating Chipotle or burgers and fries and watching The Office. The only thing that makes it different than my normal perfect day is that I get to wear a super pretty dress. However, let’s be real. I am probably going to wear my wedding dress randomly just because it’s a Thursday and I wanted to.
Side note: do you think Chipotle will still take the time to ask if I know that guac is extra if I’m in a wedding dress? It kind of seems like it’s a think that isn’t exactly the biggest decision of the day. Clearly now this needs to happen next time I am in a wedding party or at my own wedding.
Anyway, back to fries! I have, not shockingly, strong opinions on what ones are the best. Honestly, I do not think you beat McDonald’s when you get HOT fries that have just been salted and some BBQ sauce. I get it, it’s not trendy to say McDonald’s is delicious, but you know at 11:30 pm you’re in line. We all have our trash vices. My next favorite fries are sweet potato fries, almost anywhere, anytime. You go up about two class levels in my book if you are offering sweet potato fries.
Literally my least favorite fries are some local Wichita restaurants that only serve sad, limp fries. Do not come at me unless you are golden on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. I cannot deal with the epidemic of lethargic fires in this area.
I love fries so much that for three years I’ve been wanting to put together a fry-crawl. Literally the same idea of a bar crawl, except you eat fries across Wichita. I just really feel like for those of us that don’t like beer there needs to be some sort of crawl situation. Wichita has so many local restaurants with GOOD fries that I feel like this has to happen. Right? Or am I just losing it? Please tell me so I can either give up on my dream or finally indulge in an afternoon of fries.
So naturally you KNOW that I am going to want your fry recommendations. I do not care if you are in another state or country, I NEED to hear you feelings on the matter. I also need to know your feelings about crinkle, waffle and potato wedges while we’re on the topic. Are potato wedges fries? (No. They are wedges) Is there a best fry in America? So many questions, so little time.

you look stunning in red and how cute is that little bag. I rarely have fries so when I do they need to be amazing.

I pretty much crave Crack Fries from Hopcat (local Michigan spot) all the time. They serve them with beer cheese and I could probably eat them daily if it wouldn’t make me feel terrible!

This made me smile… my husband and I were eating Five Guys at home (wearing sweatpants) when he proposed! We were also drinking Veuve Cliquot champagne, so it was the perfect mix of high and low, right? Now we have every excuse to indulge nostalgically in either indulgence for anniversaries and such.

French fries are my greatest weakness. I could eat them all the time!

So much good happening here. This title is 100. Also, can you please talk about doing a shoot like this in a busy restaurant (assuming you didn’t rent it out/go after hours???) I agree that McDonald’s french fries are still really hard to beat. I DO love In-n-Out (controversial) I also love waffle fries( (like, from Chik-fil-a but also anywhere really.) I had fries this weekend as a side for FISH TACOS which makes zero sense but it had been a while and ha-le-LOO they were so good.

Haha, well if you ever come to Connecticut you’ll have to go to a Duchess and get their curly fries. SOOOO GOOD!!!! Curly fries are generally my favorite, but I also love thin ones (a la McDs)
Love that Burberry bag too *drools*

What about sweet potato fries? I love them all, but then who doesn’t love a good potato in any form, even sweet! 😉 Great post, Alissa.

You need to come to Idaho (Boise!) and visit me and eat all the fries!!! Also: I dislike sweet potato fries (what can I say? I’m a purist and live in Idaho) and will always choose curly fries if they’re available!
