Can you tell how much I love beauty week? I made a pun so you know the excitement is real. Today I get to talk to you about one of my favorite things ever, facials! I had never received a what I consider a “true” facial until I met Ashly at Beauty Boost. She introduced me to not just an incredible experience, but educated me on my skin needs and has truly helped me put my best face forward. I worked with her to share about my skincare and why I love getting her Tu’el Beauty Boost facial. She’s the woman that has changed my skin AND my brows!
I truly love Ashly and every time I get a Beauty Boost facial I walk away feeling like a new woman. This isn’t a sponsored post, but something I do in my own life and I want you to know about it! Ashly and I geek out on glycerol acid, vitamin c serum and pretty much everything skincare related. She and I collaborated on this post to share our passion about skincare.
Why should I get one?
Facials give your aesthetician the opportunity to see what’s going on with your skin so that if you need to be using different at home we can recommend the proper products (For example: the seasons changing or you’re on a new medication). We are also keeping an eye on your skin, checking for sun damage, sunspots, dehydration, acne, your issues for your skin type.
For me, I can easily justify the cost as I don’t buy make-up which saves a ton. I look at this as an investment to ensure that I don’t have to start wearing it. It’s a wonderful hour that I am silent literally and mentally that I can relax knowing I am taking care of the one skin I am given. I don’t want to take for granted that I’ll always have good skin! I try to get facial during the changing of seasons as that’s when I tend to see the most irritation.
Ladies (and gents), I-N-V-E-S-T in your skin! The results will be worth it short-term AND long-term.
How often should I get a facial?
Ideally every four to six weeks according to Ashly. Personally I thought that felt like a lot until I got two that were close in time and I noticed a brightness and a soothing of redness that I absolutely know came from the facial. I have very fair skin so any sort of redness stands out. Typically my biggest problem area is redness and after every facial I notice a reduction in it. That alone is worth it to me!
What are your facial steps?
With Tu’el, the most important thing in a facial is the cleanse. The facial lasts cleanse for a good 10 minutes. Ridding your skin of buildup, toxins and dirt from the environment and bacteria. A deep exfoliation follows to unclogged pores and remove dead skin cells to allow for better product penetration (it also allows for better absorption of your at home products). Massage helps with lymphatic drainage, blood circulation which is anti-aging because it helps produce collagen and elasticity. It improves skins all over tone and complexion. A mask helps to drive in hydration and pull out toxins. This entire facial is customized to fit your skin needs!
What the heck is an extraction?
An extraction is the process of clearing a clogged or compacted pore by manual or mechanical means. You can do this as simply as squeezing between two q-tips or with an extraction tool. Your facial should always include this to ensure that your pores are opened up and able to get the nutrients you need! It’s a little release that is weirdly so satisfying!
One the reasons I love my Beauty Boost facial is that Ashly does extractions. I have very small pores and occasionally I get a few blackheads. (The first one I got I immediately texted her and screamed what do I do?!?). My favorite part of the facial is when Ashly does this! Be careful though! If your esthetician isn’t experienced, they can cause permanent damage such as denting your skin!
Ashly once told me a horror story of someone who had gone to a large chain and walked out with a huge dent in the middle of her forehead because of the technician digging at a freckle. Yes! They mistook a freckle for a blackhead and now she has a permanent crease. This is why you have to do your research and truly trust the person you are receiving treatment from.
I’ve heard I might break out!
Breakouts during a facial are NORMAL and does not mean that you are having a reaction to the products because we are really getting in there and move stuff around. Your skin reacts differently. For example, I have never broken out but my best friend has had the exact same facial and she broke out. I find when I haven’t gotten a facial for a while, my skin can react and be a little red the day of, but after I wake up with truly glowing skin! Your skin is getting rid of a lot of toxins so don’t book a facial a day before a special event so your skin can continue to glow post-Beauty Boost facial.
What should I be doing EVERY day for my skin?
Listen even if you don’t get a Beauty Boost facial, you should still be taking care of your skin doing this ONE thing. Sunscreen! I know, I know, it sounds like your mother but seriously, you cannot undo sun damage. Even on my absolutely most lazy day I always apply vitamin c serum (more on this later this week!) and my Tu’el Daily Protect moisturizer that has SPF 30 in it. (It comes in both oil-free and regular!) Those two things are absolutely non-negotiable for me.
Skincare is a huge passion of mine and while I’m not an expert, I love learning and talking about it! It’s been so fun getting to talk to you something something I love and sharing a little bit of my favorite indulgences. All week we’re going to be talking about skincare from facials today to my 10-step Korean/American beauty routine.
Plus there’s going to be a giveaway for your own Tu’el Beauty Boost facial from Ashly because she wants to treat my readers! Be sure to follow along on Instagram for an announcement! Let me know any questions you have as we’d love to do a follow-up post.

I was so unhappy with my last facial, I ended up with a scar from a popped pimple which took months to fade, bought a product I hated and was told I couldn’t return or exchange it, and felt uncomfortable when she switched from rubbing my face to my feet and than back to my face. I need to find a new place – too bad I’m not in Kansas!
