Welcome to month two of “Things I Love,” in which I realize that it should actually be called, “10 Things I LOVED This Month” because you know, the month is like over after this weekend basically. Oh and before we begin, can we just discuss this post in which I casually put my heart and soul into a sugar-laden celebration? Thanks, we can continue now.
I’m still in Jamaica for work, although I’m writing this before leaving, I am hoping that I will have enough time to post a few photos from Jamaica. It’s always a crazy, exhausting, emotionally-draining time when we do these international events but it’s such a privilege to be able to honor ADT’s top performers! It’s always a privilege to be asked to be on this team so I am excited to once again be on it!
Life Stuff
I’ve officially bought tickets for the boyfriend and I to go to Nashville this fall! While pretty much everyone who knows me is going… why Nashville? It’s because of the food honestly! I’m not at all country and I hate country music, but I’ve decided that Nashville Alissa might want to go to a honky-tonk. Nashville Alissa also might want to bike and be outside for 20 minutes. Who knows! Anyway, please send me your recommendations please! Anyway, because of this I’m suddenly into Kacey Musgraves and in love with her soothing voice.
I recently saw A Taste of Things to Come on Broadway in Chicago. OMG guys. It’s so good. I LOVED it! I am not a shower-singer but I have been scream-singing it. If you’re in Chicago, you need to go see this! You get extra points for wearing a 50’s dress and google some Betty Crocker trivia. I love the Chicago Broadway stage because it feels intimate but the performances draw you in and you feel completely immersed in the story.
Beauty & Style
Speaking of Jamaica, all my shopping this month was geared for work events! It’s inevitable that I have to wear some pretty basic summer items on these trips but I did sneak in a few new purchases that I am very excited about.
This polka dot dress – I saw this on Dana and literally purchased it in the next 10 minutes.
Oh and this total babe-Bardot polka dot dress – If I could do a beehive thing with my hair and make it look good I would 100% do it. I love this dress and I find it to be super sexy yet not in an obvious way so I can wear this to the office. That was a terrible description but you get the idea.
The perfect spring dress – All I want to do is wear this dress is a huge field of poppies. Yes, I 100% am planning my wardrobe to whatever flowers are in season now. It’s who I’ve become.
The perfect spring dress needs the bright red heels right? – These were on such great sale I added them into my cart when I was buy the dress.
This straw hat is going to be my BFF this summer. I LOVE the metallic stripes on this.
Oh hi perfect summer dress! – I’ve been waiting on this for several months to go on sale and well, it’s not going lower than this price so I finally bought it. I’ve veryyyyy excited to wear it this spring/summer. Rebecca Taylor dresses are always the perfect length and weight for summer work dresses and I can easily transition from work to dinner.
Television
One of the most important TV shows on right now is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I discovered it a long time ago on Netflix and binged it. It took me a couple of episodes to get into it, but honestly give it three episodes and I dare you not to be hooked. It’s smart, it’s funny, it’s got amazing musical numbers, but more importantly, it finds the exact perfect way to explore so many intense and deeply personal issues. Also, I have never related to songs more than these: Sexy Getting Ready Song, Heavy Boobs and Let’s Generalize About Men.
I deeply identify with the second season in which Paula and Rebecca have to re-define their friendship. I am very much going through this right now (more on that later) and I felt so much like Paula pining for her best friend. I love that sisterhood, community, inclusion but also strength is modeled through every episode. The past season has explored mental health since the main character received a new diagnoses that alters her view of herself and explores what this means for anyone with a mental health issue.
I am not doing this show any justice so please just start watching it this weekend. I beg you!
Blogger Shoutout
I low-key Stan for Rachel over at Lipstick and Gelato. She is not only incredibly sweet, but she plays along with my random messages of “I have blueberries, goat cheese and sardines what do I do with this?” and she ALWAYS has an answer within 10 minutes. She creates incredible dishes and truly knows the art of entertaining and how to make people feel loved when eating her food.
She also has changed #DrakeonCake into #Cakesphere which I can’t even hate. My loyalty will not be shaken from Drake but I absolutely love what she’s done and how creative she is. I 100% would pay to take a cooking class from her.
And somehow that’s 10 things for this month! April was super weird in Kansas because it literally snowed one day after being 70 degrees the day before and then went from 80 to 35 the next weekend. I’m ready for some spring temps this May!

Hi Alissa! Can I ask what you do for a living such that you get work trips to Jamaica? (I think it might be kind of similar to what I do, and I’m trying to look in new ~career directions~ lol) Thanks!

I can’t wait to see you in your new dress – sometimes you just need to splurge! I’ve never watched Crazy Ex Girlfriend, but I suppose next time I’m in need of something I’ll give it a try!
