There was only one week this month I wasn’t traveling for work, so I don’t know about you, but August kind of felt non-existent. I’m not one to say that I can’t believe September is next week because I am totally fine with it. I’m tired of all the pre-fall clothing and styles I see. I really want to be able to see more true fall items so I can plan my wardrobe (more on that below) and figure out my new closet. But all that said, there were things that I loved this month!
Oh but first, we should deal with this. Drake did not get to meet me. He unfortunately couldn’t get his act together, postponing not one, but two times! I had taken a day of PTO and found out that he was delaying until Sunday night and I said that was enough. I deserve better. Sorry Drake, maybe you should have been more prepared to see me in KC. That being said, I am trying to find a way to see him on tour if work slows down JUST enough to feel like I can be away for a day.
Beauty & Style
First, I got these basic black pants that I’ve needed to replace. Then I decided to try out these fun wide-leg buttoned pants. I love that they are pretty classic but updated for this fall. I’ve been looking at much higher priced ones and the Loft ones I think are just the right price for a couple of seasons item.
New to me brand, Veronica Beard, has really been popping. I firmly believe that every designer/store has a season they do best. Veronica Beard to me is the BEST in fall. They are known for their blazers and that is what caught my eye. I’ve got my eye on this blazer and a price alert on this one.
I say all of this because I got this silk-wrap top and it feels incredible. I wore it two days in a row (I was traveling so no one knew) while traveling and it not only never wrinkled, but I got non-stop compliments. Yes, it’s pricey, but truly an item that makes me happy and fits into the new closet plan.
The other item I got is this amazing polka dot and floral top! I am so excited about it! It’s got flowers, polka dots and ruffles so basically a trifecta.
I did replace my too small, over-worn denim jacket I’ve had since during college. I wear a denim jacket on every work trip on the plane. I’m very excited about this Madewell one that went on sale.
I LOVE these under eye patches. On Peach and Lily they are $60! I found the EXACT same thing on Amazon for $10! Same brand, same quantity, everything. So do yourself a favor and try these $10 for 60 patches . I use these at least 2-3 times a week.
STOP BUYING MASKS AT SEPHORA! I was out of them and I did an emergency stop in there. HOLY COW! Literally just ONE of these masks was $9 and I got an entire pack of 5 for $15! Stop overpaying for masks. Dr. Jart is my favorite brand but buying them in store is just such a rip-off. These deep hydration ones are $13 right now for five and they are $9 for ONE in store!
Exercise Update
I had a chance to go to yoga three times this month. I know that’s not a great number but I really do walk out proud of myself when I do it. My goal in September is to go (when I’m in town) 2x a week. I’m going to start trying to incorporate some other cardio slowly in to my life. I do so much better when it’s gradual change vs wake up Monday morning and I’m drinking kale, doing apple cider vinegar shots and a bunch of cardio. No thank you. In Wichita I’ve done Limitless Yoga since my photographer also teaches classes and she’s killer.
Has anyone tried Noom? I’ve been researching it and it seems super expensive to me! However, I do like the coach aspect of it and that I don’t have to do in-person meetings like some programs. But $33 a month for a program seems high! If you know someone who has experience I’d love to be put in touch.
August Travel
This month was PACKED with travel! Like I said I was gone almost every week but it was a great month. I’ve been able to see a lot of the work that I’ve been putting in start to pay off. I’m slowly starting to be able to think in more long-term ways which really excites me as it’s been something I’ve struggled with.
Some highlights? One week I was in Chicago, Connecticut, NYC for less than a day and then Charlotte, NC. It was a jam packed week but I was super happy to be able to experience so much. We had a meeting at Facebook in NYC for work and I got a chance to go down to the Instagram floor.
Even though I’m a seasoned traveler, I’m just now starting to use cubes for packing on longer trips. These are some great basic ones that come in a ton of colors and I also use now in my drawers. Bonus for a laundry bag included! I love being able to just dump out the clothes I wore and keep all the dirty ones together.
Video Shoot Production
Finally, the reason I was gone most of the month was being in video shoot production. This has been something I’ve been very interested in and August was full of opportunity! I’ve become part of the team to plan everything (down to not so fun details), handle logistics, sync with teams and lead very large shoots for video and photography. In fact, this week I am in Florida for the biggest production of the month!
I have to admit it’s a LOT more work than I thought it was and there’s so many decisions that have to be made before the first shot is even done! I am very thankful that my boss has trusted me to bring together some of her visions. It’s a definite learning curve. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I don’t sleep the night before because I’m awake worried about making sure everything has arrived, equipment, staff, shipping, anything and everything!
Blogger Spotlight
Allison at Wardrobe Oxygen has always been a gem! I love following along with her new series called My Beauty Routine. I love getting an insight into what other women do for their skincare and beauty routines. Allison also always has a good insight into work appropriate items and I’ve gone through her archives a LOT recently to get inspiration for fall corporate outfits.
Anddd that was August! I am so ready for the three day weekend!
