I know that a lot of you live in warm places but let me tell you, this Kansas girl considers it a BIG deal to have leaves and sunlight in December. I mean, I don’t even think Dallas has wind! I think I went through the entire weekend and never once had to get a curl out of my lipstick that was thrown into my lipstick.
I saved so much money not having to reapply lipstick over and over again and it wasn’t dry so instead of buying a new NARS Niagra, I spent that $27 on a Spiced Pear Moscow Mule which was also $27 but let me tell you what, that thing was worth it. Think Moscow Mule + a slightly spiced pear + happiness + the feeling that Beyonce’s assistants feels when she gives praise. I mean that last feeling alone was worth $27.
Dallas was ridiculously charming and made me want to move there stat. The arts district, the food trucks, the shopping, the way everyone was so freaking nice was just all too charming and made me actually consider saying “y’all” because it was just the freaking cutest thing. but I am from Kansas thus I say you guys and you all.
I would like to say that I had a totally hilarious story about something that happened to me or like I fell down a bunch of stairs but nope. I was a totally normal human. Although I did basically only know parts of Dallas based on my consumption of Bravo TV shows that featured Dallas, my favorite Dallas Instagram accounts and basically planning a trip via hashtags I found on Instagram. Let me tell you, if you want to see the cool places you definitely should research the local hashtags because they will find hidden gems for you and make you avoid looking like a tourist.
Oh and let’s talk about The Galleria. First off, there is such a thing as valet parking for the mall. You. Guys. This. Is. What. The. Lord. Intended. But then I realized that the Lord did not intend for the mall to be on earth. You know what to go to human hell with recycled air, the smell of fast food, the despair of parents trying to control their children, too many lights, stores that think spraying cologne through the doors will lure people in and the feeling that no matter how much you walk, you are never going to exit. This is not what the Lord intended. I just wanted to go to Zara. That’s it. Zara. I walked in and realized that this was not going to be just a simple walk, no, it was going to involve a lot more. Escalators, maps, realizing that people in Texas think 60 is freezing so you realize you are sweating from being inside and the temp.
I made it to Zara. It took 10 minutes. I walked around Zara and wasn’t even sure what to do. I mean, I definitely wanted to be there, but the thought of having parked on the opposite side and walking upstream made me feel sit down and just wonder how people did this. I was thirsty. I was sweating. I was ready to leave. I also really wanted some shoes though. So I compromised. I stand in line for 34 minutes, get the shoes and then get a Diet Coke. 34 minutes later I got said Diet Coke. I sat down. I then realized that I was never going back again. Ever. And then a kid crawled around me and I realized the mall life is just not for me.
But you guys, you should definitely visit Dallas because they have amazing BBQ, the perfect Instagram backgrounds, food that will make you question why you don’t live there and the nicest people. Just avoid Galleria.

Sounds like you had a fab time in Dallas. I have never been any where in Texas (does the airport count?) but would love to visit one of these days. My husband loved Austin when he went there for a boys trip a few years ago.

I've only been to Dallas a time or two, but next time you go to Texas venture to Houston or Austin, they're also amazing. For all the ridiculousness Texas as a whole puts out, there are quite a few awesome places. Also, love this outfit. And every time I see your initials on your bag I just think of the AF. Like "Your outfit is fly AF." Which is apt. And makes me giggle.

Dallas sounds amazing, I'd love to visits one day and glad you had such a great trip! You look so pretty, love this classic look!

Well, I guess I need to plan a trip to Dallas now! I bet the weather was stellar compared to the tundra that we currently live in. Are there specific Instagram accounts that you recommend following?

Absolutely loving those boots! Not going to lie, living in the south in the winter is pretty awesome! I love looking out and seeing green still even though the snow can be pretty! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

Wow! You look smashing! I cannot believe that you got the blazer from Target.

Girl, glad you made it Texas but you missed the best part (Austin, duh!) Though a lot of us Austinites like to hate on Dallas with a chorus of "o-ver-ra-ted (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap), it does have decent shopping. Austin, however, has BETTER shopping IMHO, because we don't really do the whole overblown Galleria thing. We've got a couple of good malls, sure, but the gems are the small boutiques and South COngress goodness. Come visit! 🙂

Dallas, 60 degrees, and a moscow mule all sound pretty damn fabulous to me right now. Although the Galleria does not. I would have a hard time justifying all that even for a Zara (and I love me some Zara).

Dallas is definitely in my top ten places to go asap. I went once when I was younger with my aunts and grandparents, but haven't been since then. I think Corey would really like it too. And I loveeeee those boots with this outfit. You're so classic. 😉

Loved reading this! I am a Dallas-ite and happen to live right across the street from the Galleria. It can be insane, but I totally love it. I have my own little secret parking area that makes life a lot easier 😉

I love this outfit, especially the camel coat and how you put your hair up! I've never been to the Midwest or South, but Dallas does seem interesting, especially for art.
I have a love hate relationship with those types of large malls – I like that almost all the stores I like are in one place, but then I spend ages inside without any fresh air! Valet parking is definitely worth it after a long day on your feet.

Glad to hear you had a great trip and a bright spot in the year that was 2015. I would love to get my butt somewhere south right now and enjoy some balmy 60s. Sure would be 30s.
Big malls are super intimidating to me too. I know how you feel. It should not take 10 mintues to get half way across a mall, nor should it take 34 minutes in line in zara. that is crazy. but I'm glad you got the shoes.

I have relatives in Dallas and I have been twice. It is such a great city with lots to do. Looks like the weather was bright and sunny too. I love your classic camel blazer paired with the striped tee. I must say I adore the tote, necklace and earrings. All are so beautiful.
Hope you have had a great January thus far, Alissa! =))

I know this is super late BUT if you’re ever in Dallas again DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AT THE GALLERIA! The best mall, hands down, in the entire Metroplex is Northpark. Northpark is nationally known for their museum quality art and there’s a lovely courtyard where you can take a break, drink your coffee, etc. You won’t regret it. They also have valet parking available. And yes, winter in Texas is amazing. We just pay for it by having to endure summer in Texas. 🙂
Alissa
OMG I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS! I HATED the Galleria so freaking much!!!
